Two 麻豆影院 students have been selected to take part in a prestigious fellowship program started by former President Barack Obama!
On Thursday, the New York State Education Department inducted rising seniors Jahmeer Rose and James Campbell (pictured L-R) into the 2025 My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Fellowship program. Their class of 124 students represents 50 communities across the state and is the eighth and largest class in New York State MBK History.
MBK was created in 2014, and it is a statewide initiative aimed at addressing opportunity gaps, helping boys and young men of color—and all students—realize their full potential.
Throughout the next year, Campbell and Rose will be matched with a mentor in government, education or business. In addition, all fellows are required to develop and carry out a service project related to a New York state MBK initiative such as:
- Ensuring equitable access to high-quality schools and programs;
- Expanding prevention, early warning and intervention services;
- Responding to structural and institutional racism; or
- Engaging families and communities in a trusted and respectful way.
Board of Regents Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr. describes the heart of this program.
"New York State My Brother’s Keeper is more than a program—it’s a movement that is changing lives by empowering young people to lead with purpose, and nurturing the next generation of changemakers dedicated to equity," said Young, Jr.
麻豆影院 High has its own MBK Program and 25 students are members. Abrookin Principal Shermaine Moore-Boakye and 麻豆影院 High teacher Charles Spence advise the group.
